What Sun is for a women, Moon is for a man. Moon is the second half and represents his left portion of the body, his emotions, the satisfaction in the life with his counterparts. When Moon is strong in a Male horoscope it brings in his life a good looking woman as paramour. It also indicates a very understanding mother. It imparts to a man a maternal instincts, a motherly touch which attracts many females to him. Benefit from women and their associations. However, in many horoscopes we have seen, a young man gets attracted to an older woman (even if she is married).

When analysing female horoscopes, the health, the emotional nature, the relationship with the mother and her life after forty should be considered by Moon.

In Hindu Astrology, more importance is assigned to the Moon not because it is the satellite of Earth or because it is closer to us or it is cooling to the eyes but the reason is that it represents the ‘Mana’, the conscious emotions. It is born out of the heart or Mana of the ‘VIRAT PURUSH’, the Supreme Power of Godhead. What is good, satisfying, beautiful or otherwise is just a condition of the mind. In this World everything is Him so how can they be ugly or repulsive? It is only how our thoughts have been conditioned by our upbringing that we feel happiness, repulsion or any other emotions. These desires are not static and they also under go a change with the age and times.

We now proceed to give its general effect and also its effect in a male and then in a women’s horoscope:

1. Moon in Taurus makes one fond of females, particularly those slightly elder in age.

2. Moon in Scorpio inclines to many evil actions particularly with the opposite sex.

3. Moon in Capricorn disposes to mean actions and debauchery.

4. Moon in Pisces makes one much fond of the opposite sex.

Note: The evil nature of relations with the opposite sex increases if there is affliction by malefics whereas the nature becomes more refined, if there is a trine or sextile of benef ics or Moon is conjoined with them.

5. If Moon be in Gemini, Sagittarius or Pisces plurality of wives is denoted, specially if Moon applies by conjunction or aspect to more than one planet, particularly so if Moon be oriental or angular.

Moon in Different Houses

6. Moon in the 1st house: the native is fond of the opposite sex and is liked by them.

7. Moon in the 5th house: very much inclines to indulging in pleasures; the native has a number of love affairs. While the native is given to much pleasure seeking, he lacks in constancy on account of a fickle disposition and may carry on with more than one member of the opposite sex. This applies particularly to male nativities.

8. Moon in the 5th house: if afflicted there is no fulfilment of the desires of the heart, or sorrow and trouble ensue as a result of love affairs. There would also be illicit connection if there is sextile or trine aspect with malefics. If, however, there is conjunction, square, or opposition with Herschel, Neptune, Mars or Saturn there is likely to be frustration and also scandal. But if Moon be strong and there be sextile or trine of benefics, particularly if Jupiter or Venus be conjoined with these and be free from affliction happiness and pleasure would be the outcome of love affairs.

9. Moon in the 7th house; the native may marry rather early. The marriage partner would be changeable and fickle like Moon—he/she would be fond of much travelling.

10. Moon in the 7th house; if conjoined with or in square or opposition to malefics, there would be trouble and sorrow resulting from marriage. If afflicted by more than one planet and other indications confirm, there may be premature death of the wife/husband.

11. Moon in the 7th house: Not conjoined with nor aspected by any planet: Judge the attributes of the sign Moon is in. Moon is very receptive and imbibes very easily the qualities of the planets it is aspected by or if there be no aspect Moon takes in great measure the attributes of the sign it is in. Judge of the marriage partner in the above light.

12. Moon strong and well-aspected in the 7th house denotes good marriage and conjugal happiness. If Moon is in its own house or in the house of Venus or Jupiter or in Aquarius and in good aspect with Saturn it denotes a hard-working, careful and thrifty wife/husband.

13- Moon in the 8th house, if strong and well-aspected: money by marriage, legacy from a woman or insurance.

14. Moon in the 9th house, if strong and well-aspected: assistance from brethren or relations of husband/wife.

15. Moon in the 10th house: the native may be recipient of favours from ladies of high position and there may be gain from them.

16. Moon in the 11th House is good for family life; one mixes easily with masses and ladies.

17. Moon in the 11th house:

(a) If in Aries, may lead to romantic adventures. (b) If in Taurus, intrigues and sensuous outlook.

(c) If in Gemini, there is a tendency to have two love affairs simultaneously or the native may be of dual mind in regard to love affairs.

(d) If in Virgo, attachment to a shy person who may be inferior in status. (e) If in Libra, free love and marriage to one already known.

(0 If in Scorpio, secret attachments would turn out badly leading to sorrow,

18. Moon in the 12th house leads to romances and the native may live for some time secluded from others. If Venus be conjoined with Moon or be aspecting it, such living away cut off from society, may be due to some love affairs or with the beloved one. But if such Moon is afflicted by Mars, Saturn, Herschel or Neptune there would be trouble and unhappfness.

19. If Moon and many planets are between 1st and 10th or

7th and 4th early marriage or men will marry rather young girls.

20. If Moon is in any position other than that mentioned above, men marry late or comparatively grown-up women.

Moon’s Aspect

21. If Moon is occidental and afflicts Sun, delay in marriage.

22. Moon in evil aspect to Sun; loss through love affairs, marriage/women.

23. If Moon is conjoined with Sun or forms a sextile or trine with Sun:

(a) in male nativity, it shows marriage with a lady coming from a good family, dignified and self-willed and of good conduct

(b) in a female nativity, this is indicative of good success in life. But if Sun and Moon both be in Cancer or Leo, there will be delicate constitution.

24. Strong Moon in conjunction or evil aspect to Mars: the native is too much given to the company of the opposite sex. There is some loss of wealth and health thereby. In a male nativity it shows much unhappiness in married life and frequent quarrels. The wife one gets is fond of drinking, sensuous, hot-tempered and worthless,

25. Moon in good aspect to Mars: sensuous, disposition and inclined to drink. In female nativity good health.

26. Moon weak and afflicted and in conjunction or evil aspect to Mars shows too much indulgence with opposite sex and loss of money and vitality thereby.

27. Moon in conjunction or good aspect to Jupiter: success in marriage and a good wife. In female nativity good for health and money.

28. Moon in conjunction or good aspect to Venus: the native is well-mannered with good tastes and is much liked by women. In a male nativity it denotes happy marriage and if Venus be not afflicted by other planets, the wife is good and pleasing,

29. Moon afflicted by Venus shows trouble in courtship in a male nativity. In a female nativity it shows the native to be frequently a ‘slattern.’

30.Moon aspected by Saturn: marriage is delayed, particularly in male nativity.

31. If Moon is afflicted by conjunction, square or opposition of Saturn, trouble with or ill health to wife. If Moon and Saturn be in signs of Mercury or Jupiter and if affliction is serious and other confirmations present, death of wife and another marriage.

32. (a) If Moon in afflicted by Saturn and unaspected by

other planets and other indication do not point to premature death of wife, the native gets a useless wife, not good-looking, low, mean-minded and slovenly,
(b) In a female nativity this leads to intemperate habits of drinking and low conduct and may also result in disgrace.

33. Moon in conjunction with or in evil aspect to Herschel is of much significance for native’s married life. The native will have many liaisons with other people’s wives/young girls and there is likelihood of estrangement and separation from wife. In a female nativity it shows that the husband would be adulterous and would carry on with other people’s wives.
34. Moon in good aspect to Herschel: The native has adulterous intercourses with other people’s wives, even after his marriage. But there may/may not be separation from his own wife.
Judgement of Moon in Male Nativities Only
35. Moon’s position and aspect in the case of a male horoscope are of chief importance, in Judgement of marriage. The nature and aspect of the planets to which Moon applies are significant
36. The planets which apply to Moon and the sign which the former are in, would give a rough appraisement of the physical and mental attributes of the women, the native is likely to come in contact with (love affairs or resulting in marriage). Of all the planets applying that one is of the greatest importance, which is the first to apply.

For example, if Moon applies to Venus the lady one would meet with would be handsome and comely in appearance, voluptuous, with a full face and body; if Moon applies to Mercury she would be slim and slender. In the above example, if Venus be in Libra she would be more refined that if Venus were in any of the signs of Saturn; similarly, if Venus were conjoined with Jupiter the lady would be just and noble but if Venus be in the sign of Mars or conjoined with that planet the lady would be haughty and amorous. In this way, the description would vary according as the planet is one or the other, the sign it is in and the planet it is conjoined with or aspected by.

37. If Moon is in the third, sixth, ninth, or twelfth and afflicted by Saturn and without any benefic aspect and if it (Moon) be at the same time in Aries, Gemini, Virgo or Capricorn marriage would be delayed or hampered by unforeseen obstacles.

38. If there be Gemini, Sagittarius or Pisces on the cusp of the 7th house and Moon is simultaneously applying to several planets, more than one marriage or love affair with more than one woman at a time is indicated. There is greater possibility of the above if Moon or the planets it is in aspect with are in Cancer, Scorpio, or Pisces,

39. If Moon applies to Sun, the wife would be from a noble family, well-bred, firm, a little proud but not vacillating. Of course, the description should be modified accordingly as Sun is in Leo, or Capricorn or Aquarius, etc. The planet Sun is conjoined with or in aspect with will also modify the influence but the general characteristics of Sun, nobility of character, pride and firmness would be found.

40. If Moon is conjoined with or in evil aspect to Mars and does not apply to any other planet the native would be unhappy in married state because his wife would be quarrelsome and hot- tempered. If a society woman, she would be fond of drinks, would be too bold and arrogant—always liking to command. If Moon be in adverse aspect or in parallel to Mars there would be much discord and disharmony. Family

life may frequently be disrupted. This will particularly be so if either or both planets are in the 7th or 4th house and in Aries, Leo, or Sagittarius. The wife would be much worse— rather lewd and vulgar if Mars be in Cancer and having an aspect of Saturn.

41. If Moon applies to Mercury, the wife would be clever in speech but rather a little too garrulous. If Mercury is well- aspected, she would be intelligent and her speech would be full of wit and wisdom, but if Mercury be afflicted by other planets she would have a sharp and long tongue and would be a constant source of irritation to the native. 42. If Moon applies to Jupiter she would be well-bred, just, kind and bring in prosperity in her wake. The native’s conjugal life would be happy and harmonious. The wife may not be so good-looking but she would be steady in character and virtuous and would not stir up strife.

43. If Moon applies to Venus she would be of a loving temperament and handsome in appearance (refer to Aph. 36 above).

44. If Moon applies to Saturn the wife may come from a poor family, unless Saturn is exalted or the lord of the 7th house is exalted. She would be careful and industrious. She would be grave and serious, and not jolly or mirthful but prudent She would excel as a housewife and would be regular and attentive to her duties.

45. If Moon applies to Herschel the wife would have many peculiarities—she may be romantic, would have a period of unlicensed courtship and prepared to go off at a tangent at the slightest provocation. Her rashness and independent ways may be a constant headache to the husband. There will be little domestic peace or comfort If Moon is in opposition or square to Herschel and if the 7th house is also afflicted there might be frequent quarrels or even separation. If Moon be conjoined with Herschel or be in square or opposition to that planet and the degrees of the two planets are close within orbs, the native will have love affairs with women who are married to other people. If Moon be in sextile or trine to

Herschel same as above, with the rider that the native may carry on with other married women even after his own marriage.

46. If Moon is applying to Herschel and the application is very close and without any benefic aspects the native may get trapped in a sudden romance and enter into wedlock which may not turn out to be as he had imagined. This would particularly be so, if the two planets Moon and Herschel are afflicted by Mars, Saturn, or Neptune; and there may be much disappointment and sorrow. But if a strong Jupiter aspects Moon and Herschel and there are benefics in the 7th house and no affliction, even a romantic marriage may turn out to be happy.

Note. (i) Trine and sextile aspects are deemed good while opposition and square are deemed evil. But much depends upon the inherent nature as well as strength or weakness of the aspecting planet. Square from an afflicted Mars in Cancer will be much more evil than a square from Jupiter in Pisces. Also, if the afflicting planet is elevated the evil will be more than if the same planet were not so. (ii) Have regard to the sign in which the Moon and the applying planets are.

47. In the above aphorisms, describing effects of Moon’s application to various planets, the effect would be much more marked, in case of native’s being born with sign Capricorn rising in the eastern horizon.

48. Moon’s application to planets in a male nativity should be judged along with the application of planets to Venus and the Ruling planet.

49. If there be a planet in the 7th house and Moon apply to a planet other than that in the 7th house, there may be more than one marriage, or love affair.

50. If Moon be occidental and be in a square or opposition to Sun or conjoined with, in square or opposition to Saturn, there is delay in men’s marriage. In order to bring out this result Moon and the other planet (Sun or Saturn) should be within orbs.

51. Judgement about the wife, her appearance and temperament as given according to Moon’s application to one planet or the other should also be synthesised with that of the 7th house in the male nativity. Planets near the cusp of the 7th house also influence greatly the type of women one would marry. She would have the attributes of the planet conjoined with the cusp of the 7th house, or strongly aspecting it. If no planet in the 7th house, the sign on the cusp of the 7th house is to be taken into consideration as a contributing factor.

52. Moon in the 8th house much afflicted and if the 7th is also affliaed there may be premature death of wife (look for other indications also for confirmation). Judgement about death should be arrived at only when there is overwhelming corroboration.

53. If there be no planet in the 7th house and Moon is the Ruler in the horoscope:

(a) if Moon is afflicted, It would bring notoriety and ill repute.

(b) if well-aspected, there would be good name and fame but financial loss.

54. When Moon is the Ruling planet and forms an aspect with Neptune there is illusion about a lady’s love; generally trouble ensues and association with ladies leads to all kinds of unfortunate happenings. There may be some deceptions or fraud or slander. This influence hinders marriage and obstructs married happiness.

55. If Moon be strong in 5th or 7th house and forming aspects to a number of planets— if these aspects are favourable there would be early marriage but if aspects ,are square or opposition with malefics, there would be frustration or the outcome of the romance would lead to unhappiness.

Female Nativities Only

56. If Moon be in conjunction or evil aspect to Herschel, the husband of the woman would be fond of adulterous intercourse with other married women.


57. If in a female nativity Moon is in conjunction or in any other evil aspect with Saturn, it is an unfortunate influence. It may result in disgrace. The native would be fond of drinks and would be depraved.

This would be so if the lord of the 1st house and planets (near the cusp of the 1st house) are weak and afflicted and if the 9th house is also weak/afflicted.

58. If Moon is in 7th house, it is indicative of the native having some romances in married life and the affection of the partner would fluctuate.

59. Moon in 7th house, unless it is well-aspected by benefics is not a good influence because it acts as an unsteadying influence. But Moon has the quality of taking in the attributes of the planets it is in aspect with. As such, the goodness or badness of this position would depend upon the aspect this planet receives. If there be no planet forming aspect with the Moon, judge according to the sign it is in, and also take into consideration the lordship of the house. For example, lord of the 1st in 7th, if it be strong would have quite different influence from a weak lord of the 6th, in the 7th house.

Note: (i) Planets separating from Moon are not so important as applying, (ii) Full Moon is good, weak Moon is bad. (iii) Waxing Moon is good; waning Moon is bad.
